“Lisa” is a powerful new short film and music narrative that exposes the devastating reality of domestic abuse. Driven by the haunting performance of Manchester grime icon Nika D (Virus Syndicate), the film’s soundtrack, releasing on Bad Medic Records, becomes the heartbeat of Lisa’s journey confronting the brutal cycle of coercion, survival, and consequence, and the immense strength it takes to endure.
Produced by EY3 Media and a dedicated female-led team determined to amplify women’s stories of survival, “Lisa” is directed by Hayley Thomas writer and director of the award-winning #IsThisOK? campaign for The Mayor of Greater Manchester’s gender-based violence strategy, alongside Emily Hagan as First Assistant Director.
Through unflinching storytelling and powerful performances, “Lisa” lays bare the tragic reality of domestic violence asking urgent questions about justice, protection, and the heavy price victims continue to pay.
The UK’s National Centre for Domestic Abuse highlights that 1 in 4 women experience domestic abuse in their lifetime, with 1.6 million women over the age of 16 having done so. According to the Centre for Women’s Justice - Fact: 93% of defendants in domestic abuse cases are male; 84% of victims are female. And yet, women are three times more likely to be arrested for incidents of abuse.
